Monday, May 9, 6:30 p.m. 48 Hour Film Project Genre Workshop
Florida Times-Union building, 1 Riverside (where they print the newspaper, at the north end of the Acosta Bridge, NOT the Times-Union Performing Arts Center on Water Street)
To prepare Jacksonville's filmmakers for the 2011 48 Hour Film Project scheduled for June 17-19, Cinemania will present a workshop to review genres used by the 48 HFP. When teams compete in the short film competition, 48 HFP requires each team to draw a genre out of a hat and the team is required to make their film in that genre. This workshop will give filmmakers a primer in correct elements needed to create a film in a specific genre. Admission: Free. Open to the public.

Friday, May 13, 9:00 p.m., Premiere of THE DEADBEATS
5 Points Theatre
Join us for the horror short, Deadbeats, shot in the movie house where it will premiere, the 5 Points Theatre! Creepy, freaky and funky, Deadbeats was made by local filmmakers and cast led by JU's Ross Howard and Jeremy Tidwell. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. The Premiere Event includes a live band, the film "The Deadbeats," various drink specials, and a meet and greet with the actors, directors, and crew! Admission: $6.50.

Thursday, May 19, 8:00 p.m. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (VIP Pirate Party to benefit the Chamber Foundation)

Festivities begin in the lobby around 8 p.m. with live entertainment, music,and lots of pirates. The VIP Pirate Party starts at 11:00 p.m. followed by the premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides in 3D at 12:01 a.m. VIP tickets include: Preferred seating to May 20 - 12:01 a.m. showing of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides in 3D; Fresh Mellow Mushroom Specialty & Traditional Pies with Caesar & House Salads; Pirate Show from "Brothers of the Coast"; Door Prizes and giveaways.
