University of North Florida Streams Commencement Ceremonies Live Via the Internet

For the first time ever, anyone with a computer will be able to watch the University of North Florida’s commencement ceremonies live on the internet, starting Friday, December 7, allowing friends and loved ones across the globe to participate in this milestone for students.
Easy Edit Video of Jacksonville will be shooting the ceremony and feeding the event out on the Web. “The ceremony will be streamed in real time and is designed so multiple users can go to the same site simultaneously,” said Easy Edit Video President David Zuckerman. “Anyone can watch it live, anywhere they choose without having to go to the UNF arena.

The University has two fall commencement ceremonies, one at 11am for the College of Arts and Science, and the College of Computing, Engineering and Construction, and another one at 3pm for the Brooks College of Health, Coggin College of Business and the College of Education and Human Services. “In partnership with Easy Edit Video, UNF is thrilled to be streaming the commencement live. This will allow friends and relatives all around the world to share in this very special occasion,”
said Assistant Director of Admissions, Kristen Dalton.
Easy Edit Video was first awarded the graduation video production contract in the spring of 2010.  But earlier this year, UNF was required to rebid the contract when they decided to add live streaming. “We have a track record for success when it comes to live streaming graduation ceremonies, having already done it for both Flagler College and Bolles High School,” said Zuckerman.
When the time comes to view the commencement ceremony, a viewer connects to the central streaming server by typing in http://www.unf.edu/commencement/Commencement_LiveStream.aspx
According to Zuckerman, the beauty of doing it this way means the viewer simply types in the Web address to connect and does not need to set up an account or have a user name and password.”

The quality of the video is determined by the quality of the viewer’s Internet connection.  Because it is live, a 90-minute graduation will take exactly 90 minutes to broadcast. Then once the commencement is over, the ceremony will be archived on the server for about two weeks, and a viewer can watch it again if they so desire.
