Film Florida Legend Awards to Fete Industry Pioneers Including Burt Reynolds

Film Florida will honor Burt Reynolds, Ray Fielding, Dee Miller, Victor Milt and Wes Skiles (posthumous) as the 2011 Legend Award recipients at the Legend Awards event June 30, 2011 in West Palm Beach. The Legend Award – launched in 2006 – honors Sunshine State pioneers in the film, television and production industry.

The Legend Awards will be held at 6:30 p.m. on June 30 at the Keith C. and Elaine Johnson Wold Performing Arts Center at Lynn University, Boca Raton, FL. Tickets for the event are $50 in advance. The recipients have made major contributions to the industry, including:

Jacksonville Film & Television Office Now Taking Nominations!

It is that time of year again…time to start thinking about who should be the next Award Recipient at the 2011 Jacksonville Film Industry Reception. Not only are we taking nominations for the annual Jacksonville Film & TV Industry Award, but we are also adding a new award this year called the Rising Star Award which is for the “next” generation.

The Rising Star Award is for those individuals (from Northeast, FL) under the age of 40 who have made a significant contribution to our local production community. The Film & TV Industry Award is designed specifically for those individuals (from Northeast, FL) who have made outstanding contributions and a significant impact to the film and television industry over a span of several years. Past recipients include: Dan Kossoff (pictured), Donald Barton, Ted Johnson and the late Representative Don Davis. If you would like to Join a Jacksonville 48 Hour Team you have two ways to do it.


First, go to www.48hourfilm.com/jacksonville and click the "Join a Jacksonville Team" link at the bottom of the page. Enter your information and you will be in the database. It is important that you go out and do this now because as today, Thursday May 19, the Team Leaders will be getting instructions on how to access that database and contact potential team members. You don't want to miss out.

Second, come to our second Meet & Greet Party on Thursday, May 26, at River City Brewing Company from 6:30 to 9:30PM and meet the Team Leaders and other people who want to participate in the Jacksonville 48 Hour Film Project. “Acting For Camera” Part of the Filmmakers Series - A Jacksonville Film Festival Program

Filmmakers Series continues with the announcement of “Acting For Camera” an Acting Workshop with two sessions offered on May 21st or 22nd from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at WJCT.
Award-winning film writer/director/producer John A. Gallagher teaches this intensive one-day on-camera seminar on acting for the camera
The seminar explores the rigors of acting for film with the goal to strengthen, inspire and renew the actor through repetition, analysis, and improvisation. As a working director, John shares insight about acting for the camera from the filmmakers’ pint-of-view, offering a rare opportunity for actors to expand their awareness of the movie-making process.

Jacksonville Cult Movie Celebrates 40th Anniversary With National Home Video Release!

Barton Films, Inc. is proud to announce the long awaited home video release of their 1971 cult theatrical feature film ZAAT which was filmed in and around Jacksonville, Florida. According to Ed Tucker, a spokesperson for Barton Films, this release represents the culmination of over tens years of dedication on the part of the filmmakers and fans to assemble the best elements possible in one package. The forthcoming release will be on the Cultrare Video label and available in both standard DVD and high definition Blu-Ray editions, newly mastered from the original negative. Cultrare is a subsidiary of Synergy Entertainment which has a standing reputation for making high demand cult classics available to fans in versions they can be proud of.

ZAAT, which will be one of the flagship titles of the newly launched Cultrare label, will be no exception. According to Tucker, “we have located an outstanding selection of original trailers, television spots, rare promotional materials, and never before seen behind the scenes photos to enhance this edition – we even have some extremely rare outtakes we managed to unearth”.
