2010 Jacksonville Film Festival Events

The 2010 Jacksonville Film Festival is featuring Works In Progress, a program designed for filmmakers to share their works, which include films, short films, documentaries, screenplays, and music for film and to receive feedback from the filmmaking community. The program will showcase the film Truly Everlasting, directed by Gerald Jackson, at WJCT Studios, Wednesday, July 21 from 6pm to 8pm. Truly Everlasting, a film about two mismatched lovers who don't know they are perfect for each other, will be produced by Five Alive Films and will be shot in Jacksonville, using north Florida crew members. The event is free with a requested donation. For more information on Five Alive Films, please visit Five Alive Films.

The 2010 Jacksonville Film Festival is also presenting a special Reel People where it will screen environmental film Gimme Green followed by an Q&A session with filmmakers Eric Flagg and Isaac Brown at MOCA, Thursday, July 22 from 7pm to 9pm. Gimme Green humorously looks at the American obsession with the residential lawn and the effects it has on our environment, our wallets and our outlook on life, peering behind the curtain of the $40 billion industry that fuels the nation's largest irrigated crop-the lawn. The event is free for JFF members and cost $10 for non members. For more information on the film, please visit Gimme Green.

Reviews:

"In just 27 minutes this sometimes funny, sometimes scary film ambitiously pulls together the environmental, economic and social impacts of lawn cultivation, all the while toying with the idea of lawns as a symbol of social status." --NewWest
"endlessly fascinating and richly entertaining in its celebration of lawn mania"--FilmThreat
