The World of Foote: Actress Hallie Foote Visits Jacksonville

The Jacksonville Public Library in partnership with Players by the Sea Community Theatre and One World Foundation, Inc.; media sponsor, WJCT Public Broadcasting; and media partner, Brunet-Garcia Advertising & Public Relations, presents The World of Foote.

Hallie Foote, daughter of Horton Foote and foremost interpreter of his work, will visit Jacksonville as part of her ongoing effort to advance her father's legacy as one of America's finest authors of the last century. The American actress was nominated for a Tony Award for her Broadway performance as Mary Jo in her father's comedy Dividing the Estate in 2009, the year of her father's death.

Horton is an American playwright and screenwriter, perhaps best known for his Academy Award-winning screenplays To Kill a Mockingbird and Tender Mercies. His play, The Young Man From Atlanta, earned him a Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1995.

Hallie will give an interpretive reading of selected passages from Horton's extensive body of work on May 6 at the Main Library at 303 Laura Street North. The reception begins at 5:30 p.m. followed by Hallie's interpretive reading and a question and answer period, beginning at 6:30 p.m. and ending at 8:00 p.m.
The event is free and open to the public but reservations are required. Reservations must be made at: http://theworldoffoote.eventbrite.com/. For ADA accommodation requests, please call (904) 630-7595 (TTY 630-1999) at least 72 hours prior to the event.

Get familiar with Hallie and her father's work through the library's collection of books, DVDs, CDs and screenplays.

In addition to this event, Hallie will work with the cast at Players by the Sea as they develop their main stage production of Dividing the Estate, slated to open May 13. Dividing the Estate is Horton Foote's fascinating dissection of a dysfunctional Texan family that involves an elderly matriarch, a large estate, and quarrelsome children who gather to discuss their inheritance in what emerges as a dark comedy. It will run at Players by the Sea May 13, 14, 19, 20, 21, 22, 26, 27, and 28. Curtains open at 8 p.m. and admission is $20. Purchase tickets by calling 904 249 0289 or visiting http://www.playersbythesea.org/.

Hallie will also make an appearance on WJCT's First Coast Connect on May 4 at 9 a.m.

Don't miss this incredible and rare opportunity. Reserve your seat now!
